About the Competition
Apart from being the story of Shri Rāmā, Rāmāyana is also a vast source of botany, geography, history and more. The fourteen-year Vanavāsa Shri Rama took up with Sita Māta and Lakshmanā takes us through an extensive variety of flora and fauna along with their geographical locations.
This Ramanavami, CSP in collaboration with Artists for Wildlife and Nature and Heritage Trust invites you to celebrate the Gudiya Sambhrama festival by choosing themes from the Valmiki Ramayana as inspiration for your illustrations of flora and fauna depicted in the epic.
Eligibility: Anyone from India may participate.

Artists for Wildlife and Nature
AWN was formed in 2017 by Prasad Natarajan, a wildlife artist, and is the first of its kind in India. Their main aim is to promote wildlife and nature art. AWN’s artists strongly believe in portraying nature in her purest form. They provide a platform that encourages different forms of wildlife art and support professional and novice artists alike.

Who can participate in this contest?
Anyone residing in India, within the age group of 18-30 may participate in the Gudiya Sambhrama Art Contest! There are a set of guidelines that all participants need to follow to participate in the contest. All contest entries should have an ID Proof of the artist.
What is the size and format for the artwork submission?
The size and format of artwork are as follows:
- Submit High resolution photographed images of the artwork online. Images must be of 300 dpi.
- Please ensure that each painting entry is clearly provided with:
- Artist name in full
- Title of the painting
- Medium (e.g. Watercolors, acrylic, oils etc.)
- Size including the frame in inches
- All contest entries are to be emailed along with an ID Proof of the artist.
- 250-word explanation of the topic/ theme must be provided.
- Social media handles of artist must be provided.
For Large scale artworks:
The minimum size of artwork without frame should be 8.27 × 11.69 inches and
Maximum size not more than 11.69 x 16.53 inches
Participants are requested to adhere to the sizes provided and any variation in sizes will lead to rejection.
Incomplete entries will be disqualified and no justification or explanation will be provided.
What are the other guidelines for the contest?
General guidelines:
- The last date for online submission is 21st May 2021,Sita Navami
- One online entry per artist.
- The artwork must not have won any prize in any other contest anywhere in the world, or been previously published in print media.
- The artwork must have been created within the last three years and be an original work.
- Upon selection, the winning unframed artworks need to be posted/couriered to Bangalore and will not be returned to the artist. Postal charges will have to be borne by the artists.
- You must be the sole author and owner of the copyright of all artwork entered, OR if your work is copied from photograph(s) that is/are not your own, you must have sole permission in writing from the copyright owner to use his/her work.
- We might ask for reference images from which the artworks were made if your artworks are part of the winning entries.
- Source material or proof of permission to use must be made available on request by the judges. Center for Soft Power and AWN do not accept any liability in the publication of unlawfully reproduced art.
- Copies of published photographs or paintings are not eligible.
- All artworks can be on the subjects of Valmiki Ramayana. Artworks depicting nudity, violence, child abuse or pornography will not be accepted.
- Malpractice in making art, if found during the course of submission of artworks, example digital manipulation and painting over photographs, etc. No explanation will be provided and that artist would be banned from submitting artworks for a year in any of AWN art shows
- Mobile photographs of artworks for selection will be straight away rejected.
- Only entries uploaded above will be considered as an entry for the contest. All other communication will happen only through email. Please avoid sending entries on Facebook, Whatsapp and other media platforms.
- Jury's decision on selection of artworks is final, no further queries on the selection process will be encouraged and no further reviews of artworks will be entertained.
- Accompanying verse from the Valmiki Ramayana; mention Kanda, Sarga and Verse.

Artists Agreement
By submitting the artwork, you accept that CSP and the Heritage Trust have the rights to showcase the artworks, with your permission, on their online platform as part of the festival, even if you are not one of the winners.
If you win either the first or the second prize, you automatically grant permission to CSP and Heritage trust to upload the artwork with due credits on their social media platforms, including, but not limited to YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter.
You will also be required to send the physical unfarmed artwork to us.
About the Judge
Prasad Natarajan is Bangalore based wildlife artist and founder of Artist for Wildlife and Nature (AWN). Self-taught artist. Prasad has been working on wildlife art from 2005.
Prasad is now one of India’s acclaimed wildlife artists and featured in many leading wildlife magazines. He travels around the world to study his subjects’ behavior in their natural habitat.
