Center for Soft Power is delighted to present Soft Talk 8: Indian music in Canada on Saturday, June 27 at 5.30 pm with esteemed guru Sangeetha Kalanidhi Trichy Sankaran, a world-renowned percussion virtuoso, Indian music scholar and composer, and the founding director of Indian music studies at York University. Over the years, Prof Sankaran has bridged eastern and western pedagogical styles and has influenced generations of students who have become noted performers, composers, and music educators themselves. He has made valuable contributions to many scholarly conferences across North America and has published two major books: one on the theory and techniques of South Indian classical drumming, and the other on the Art of Konnakkol (Solkattu).
We also have Ed Hanley, who in a recent interview with CSP spoke about his love and interest for Indian music: https://www.softpowermag.com/theres-a-tala-for-every-moment-in-life-canadian-rhythmist-ed-hanley/
Justin Gray, co-creator of the Bass Veena will play his innovative Bass Veena where he combines the music of the East and West.
