Srishti Sambhrama: Celebrating the Earth Mother, Report

Introduction

Center for Softpower conducted a series of discussions on wildlife and conservation from 1-4 October, 2020. Smt. Vijayalakshmi, the convener, along with her team, brought several experts from a wide variety of fields to discuss conservation of wild animals in India. The programs brought light to the issues faced in the field of conservation, as well as a spotlight on several animals.

Robert Bateman once said, “If someone becomes a bird watcher, the world is in better hands.” Certainly, this group of four female artists kept turning back to the Canadian naturalist and painter for inspiration and guidance. However, each of these seasoned artists from around the world have created their own styles and own methods to make Wildlife Art their passion as well as their sustainable lifeline. 

The panel discussion dove deep into nature, and why the panelists became wildlife artists. Every panelist discussed their pathway into the field of art and wildlife, and the commonality was that every artist must be in love with nature.

Exhibitions:  Some of these works can be viewed in the ongoing exhibitions, Strokes of the Wild – an artistic representation of wildlife and nature, Shutterbugs and the Wild – photographs of the diverse flora and fauna and The Wild in Indian Ethos – showcases the importance of wildlife in the Indian civilizational ethos.
